# Uninstall DHCP Server Package

## Description{% #description %}

If the system does not need to act as a DHCP server, the dhcp package can be uninstalled. The `isc-dhcp-server` package can be removed with the following command:

```
$ apt-get remove isc-dhcp-server
```

## Rationale{% #rationale %}

Removing the DHCP server ensures that it cannot be easily or accidentally reactivated and disrupt network operation.

## Remediation{% #remediation %}

### Shell script{% #shell-script %}

The following script can be run on the host to remediate the issue.

```bash
#!/bin/bash
# CAUTION: This remediation script will remove isc-dhcp-server
# from the system, and may remove any packages
# that depend on isc-dhcp-server. Execute this
# remediation AFTER testing on a non-production
# system!
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get remove -y "isc-dhcp-server"
```
