# Uninstall dovecot Package

The `dovecot-core` package can be removed with the following command:

```

$ apt-get remove dovecot-core
```

If there is no need to make the Dovecot software available, removing it provides a safeguard against its activation.

The following script can be run on the host to remediate the issue.

```bash
#!/bin/bash

# CAUTION: This remediation script will remove dovecot-core
# from the system, and may remove any packages
# that depend on dovecot-core. Execute this
# remediation AFTER testing on a non-production
# system!


DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get remove -y "dovecot-core"
```
