# Storage accounts should have soft delete for containers enabled

## Description{% #description %}

Enable soft delete for containers on Azure Blob Storage accounts to allow recovery of accidentally or maliciously deleted containers. When enabled, deleted containers are retained for a configurable period (1–365 days) before permanent removal, protecting against data loss from accidental deletions or ransomware attacks.

## Remediation{% #remediation %}

In the Azure portal, enable soft delete for containers in the storage account **Data protection** settings. Set the retention period to a value appropriate for your organization. See [Soft delete for containers](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/soft-delete-container-overview).
