# Journey Paths

Journey paths show the most common paths users take between selected events.

Use journey paths to:

- See how users navigate key journeys and complete workflows.
- Understand whether users are converting efficiently or taking unexpected detours.
- Investigate where and why users drop off.

## Create a journey paths chart{% #create-a-journey-paths-chart %}

1. In Product Analytics, select Create New > Journey Paths.

1. Define User steps by selecting at least two events that you want to analyze paths between.

For a given step, click or… to specify multiple events, or click the filter icon to filter the step by specified properties.

1. (Optional) Filter chart results based on properties such as country or device type using Filter by criteria.

## Analyze a journey paths chart{% #analyze-a-journey-paths-chart %}

After you define steps in a journey, the chart displays the most common paths that users took between them.

Each path shows the percentage and number of sessions that followed that path, and the average time spent on it. Paths with no listed events represent sessions that went directly from the start event to the end event with no intermediate views or actions in between.

You can refine journey path charts in various ways to zero in on the paths you want to analyze.

1. Use the Converted / Dropped selector to switch between paths that reached the final step and those that dropped off. Dropoff paths have no end node.

1. In journeys with multiple steps, use the step selector to choose which pair of steps to analyze paths between.

1. Use the time range selector to change the period of data the chart analyzes.

1. Use the Views and Actions toggles to control which event types appear as path nodes. Views, actions, and custom actions each display with a distinct color and icon in the diagram, so you can identify the type of event at each step of a path.

1. For truncated paths, click View more to reveal the next events in that path. Click View less to collapse it again.

1. Click an event to open a menu with options to view the session replays or the users associated with that path. Or, hold **Option** (macOS) or **Alt** (Windows/Linux) and click an event to hide it from the diagram.

1. Use More Paths and Fewer Paths to control how many paths are displayed.
