# Log Configuration

## Overview{% #overview %}

Datadog Logging without Limits* decouples log ingestion and indexing. Choose which logs to index and retain, or archive, and manage settings and controls at a top-level from the log configuration page at [**Logs > Pipelines**](https://app.datadoghq.com/logs/pipelines).

## Configuration options{% #configuration-options %}

- Control how your logs are processed with [pipelines](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/pipelines) and [processors](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/processors).
- Set [attributes and aliasing](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/attributes_naming_convention/) to unify your logs environment.
- [Generate metrics from ingested logs](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/logs_to_metrics/) as cost-efficient way to summarize log data from an entire ingested stream.
- Institute fine-grained control over your log management budget with [log indexes](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/indexes).
- Forward ingested logs to your own cloud-hosted storage bucket to keep as an [archive](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/archives/) for future troubleshooting or compliance audits.
- [Rehydrate an archive](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/log_configuration/rehydrating) to analyze or investigate log events that are older or excluded from indexing.
- Restrict [logs data access](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/guide/logs-rbac/) with restriction queries.

## Log Explorer{% #log-explorer %}

Once you've completed configuration, start investigating and troubleshooting logs in the [Log Explorer](https://docs.datadoghq.com/logs/explorer/).
