Description

The named service is provided by the bind package. The bind package can be removed with the following command:


$ apt-get remove bind

Rationale

If there is no need to make DNS server software available, removing it provides a safeguard against its activation.

Remediation

Shell script

The following script can be run on the host to remediate the issue.

#!/bin/bash

# CAUTION: This remediation script will remove bind9
#	   from the system, and may remove any packages
#	   that depend on bind9. Execute this
#	   remediation AFTER testing on a non-production
#	   system!

DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get remove -y "bind9"
