## Overview{% #overview %}

Real User Monitoring (RUM) is integrated with [Bits AI](https://docs.datadoghq.com/bits_ai.md). You can start [Bits Investigations](https://docs.datadoghq.com/bits_ai/bits_investigation.md) from RUM, and use [Bits Chat](https://docs.datadoghq.com/bits_ai/bits_chat.md) on any RUM page. RUM provides Bits with frontend-specific context, such as Core Web Vitals, view load timelines, operation health, and session-level signals. Bits correlates that context with the rest of your telemetry, including APM traces, logs, profiles, and source code, to identify root causes.

Because these investigations run on Bits Investigation, every investigation you start from RUM is saved in the [Bits Investigations list](https://app.datadoghq.com/bits-ai/investigations), can be shared with your team, takes your past feedback into account, and can be sent to [Bits Code](https://docs.datadoghq.com/bits_ai/bits_code.md) to generate a fix.

You can use Bits in RUM in three ways:

| Use case                                                                                                                 | Description                                                                                                                                    | Bits capability    |

| [Optimize performance](https://docs.datadoghq.com/real_user_monitoring/bits_ai/optimize_performance.md) | Get recommendations on potential issues affecting your application's performance, and start an investigation on any of them. | Bits Investigation |
| [Investigate regressions and alerts](https://docs.datadoghq.com/real_user_monitoring/bits_ai/investigate_regressions.md) | Investigate anomalies on your performance metrics, or enable automatic investigations on alerting monitors. | Bits Investigation |
| [Ask questions and get tasks done](https://docs.datadoghq.com/real_user_monitoring/bits_ai/bits_chat.md) | Ask questions on any RUM page, such as `Why is this view slow?` or `Which pages have the worst INP?`, and let Bits take action on your behalf. | Bits Chat |

## Prerequisites{% #prerequisites %}

- Bits AI must be enabled for your organization.
- To start a Bits Investigation, you need the **Bits Investigations Write** permission. For more information, see [Configure Bits Investigation](https://docs.datadoghq.com/bits_ai/bits_investigation/configure.md).
- To get code-level findings, set up the [Source Code Integration](https://docs.datadoghq.com/source_code.md) with GitHub.
- To let Bits attribute frontend issues to backend services, [correlate RUM with APM traces](https://docs.datadoghq.com/real_user_monitoring/correlate_with_other_telemetry/apm.md).
