Overview

APIContext monitors your APIs for conformance with OpenAPI Specifications (OAS), and open standards such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, FAPI (Financial-grade API), and FDX (Financial Data Exchange). When it detects a nonconformance, such as a schema mismatch, authentication failure, or unexpected response behavior, APIContext sends a real-time alert to Datadog as an event.

Integrating APIContext with Datadog provides centralized visibility into API health, which helps accelerate remediation, improve system reliability, and maintain trust with internal and external API consumers.

Key benefits:

  • Detect API drift and contract violations in real-time
  • Route conformance issues into Datadog for unified incident management
  • Maintain compliance with open standards and custom rules
  • Reduce time to resolution by surfacing actionable, API-specific insights

Setup

To send APIContext events to Datadog:

  1. In Datadog, navigate to Integrations, select the APIContext tile, and click Install Integration.
  2. Click Connect Accounts to begin authorization. You are redirected to APIContext to complete the setup.
  3. In APIContext, navigate to Alerts & Webhooks and click Add new alert.
  4. From the dropdown menu, select Datadog (Conformance Events), and name your Event.
  5. (Optional) By default, only conformance failures are sent to Datadog. To also send conformance passes, adjust the toggle switch under Trigger Alerts.
  6. Click Save.

For detailed UI steps, see the APIContext setup guide for [sending metrics to Datadog] (https://docs.apimetrics.io/docs/export-to-datadog).

Validation

Wait up to 24 hours for APIContext to run new checks or manually trigger a new check.

Uninstallation

In APIContext

  1. Go to Alerts and Webhooks.
  2. Select the existing alert with the Datadog (Conformance Events) type.
  3. In the alert tile, click Delete.

In Datadog

In Datadog, go to Integrations, select the APIContext tile, and click Uninstall Integration.

Note: Uninstalling the integration revokes any existing authorizations. To confirm that all API keys associated with this integration have been disabled, search for the integration name on the API Keys management page.
