# Hex

## Overview{% #overview %}

[Hex](https://hex.tech) is a collaborative data workspace for building notebooks, data apps, and interactive analytics. With Datadog's Hex integration, data teams can view end-to-end lineage between warehouse tables and Hex projects. The integration collects metadata and field-level lineage for objects in your Hex account.

### Data Catalog Assets{% #data-catalog-assets %}

The integration builds a representation of the following Hex objects:

- Projects
- SQL Cells

### Lineage{% #lineage %}

The integration generates field-level lineage between warehouse tables and columns and downstream Hex projects and SQL cells. Lineage is derived for all [supported data warehouse destinations](https://docs.datadoghq.com/data_observability/quality_monitoring/data_warehouses.md).

No installation steps are required.

### Configuration{% #configuration %}

#### Create a Hex workspace token{% #create-a-hex-workspace-token %}

1. In your Hex workspace settings, go to the **API keys** page.
1. Click **New Token** to generate a workspace token.
1. Provide a description and an expiration time frame. Datadog recommends setting up a token with no expiration.
1. For the API scopes, select **Read Access** under **Projects**, **Cells**, and **Data connections**.

#### Add the API credentials to Datadog{% #add-the-api-credentials-to-datadog %}

1. Navigate to the [Hex integration tile](https://app.datadoghq.com/integrations?search=hex&integrationId=hex).
1. Click **Configure** > **+ Add New Account**.
1. Fill out the form with the following:
   - **API Token**: The token from the previous step.
   - **Workspace URL**: Required only if you are a single-tenant, EU multi-tenant, or HIPAA multi-tenant customer. Leave empty otherwise.
1. Click **Save**.

### Validation{% #validation %}

It can take up to 60 minutes for data to appear after the initial setup.

Check the [Data Catalog](https://app.datadoghq.com/data-obs/catalog) to verify that your Hex account appears and that the expected catalog assets are present.

## What's next{% #whats-next %}

When your Hex account is successfully connected, Datadog syncs every 60 minutes and automatically derives field-level lineage from warehouse tables to downstream Hex projects and SQL cells.

After syncing, you can explore your Hex projects and their upstream warehouse dependencies in the [Data Observability Catalog](https://app.datadoghq.com/data-obs/catalog).
