## Overview{% #overview %}

[Google Cloud Trace](https://cloud.google.com/trace) is a distributed tracing system that collects latency data from your applications and displays it in the Google Cloud console, helping you understand how requests propagate through your services.

Use the Datadog Google Cloud Platform integration to collect metrics from Google Cloud Trace.

If you haven't already, set up the [Google Cloud Platform integration](https://docs.datadoghq.com/integrations/google-cloud-platform.md) first. There are no other installation steps.

| **gcp.cloudtrace.bigquery_export.exported_span_count**(count) | Counts per status of attempts to export spans to BigQuery via a TraceSink. Note that spans will be counted for each configured TraceSink that they match. |
| **gcp.cloudtrace.billing.monthly_spans_ingested**(gauge)       | Month-to-date trace spans ingested.                                                                                                                       |
| **gcp.cloudtrace.billing.spans_ingested**(count)                | Trace spans ingested.                                                                                                                                     |
