## Overview{% #overview %}

Datadog's GitHub Costs integration provides a comprehensive view of your GitHub expenses—from Actions to Storage to Copilot—across your organization. With this integration, you can view GitHub costs alongside other costs in [Cloud Cost Management](https://app.datadoghq.com/cost), filter cost data by repository, and optimize cloud spend across your entire enterprise.

## Setup{% #setup %}

An account collects costs for either a whole GitHub enterprise or a single GitHub organization, depending on the name and token you provide. An enterprise report already covers every organization it owns, so connect an organization only if you don't administer the parent enterprise. Connecting both an enterprise and one of its organizations counts that organization's costs twice.

Both are available only to accounts on GitHub's [enhanced billing platform](https://docs.github.com/en/billing/using-the-enhanced-billing-platform-for-enterprises/about-the-enhanced-billing-platform-for-enterprises).

### Enterprise{% #enterprise %}

Datadog requires a personal access token (Classic) from an Enterprise Admin user with the `manage_billing:enterprise` and `read:org` scopes, as the enterprise [Cost Center](https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/rest/billing/cost-centers?apiVersion=2022-11-28#get-all-cost-centers-for-an-enterprise) and [Billing Usage](https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/rest/billing/usage?apiVersion=2022-11-28#get-billing-usage-report-for-an-enterprise) endpoints do not support fine-grained personal access tokens. Your enterprise name is the slug shown on the [enterprise settings page](https://github.com/settings/enterprises) and in the URL `https://github.com/enterprises/<enterprise-name>`.

### Organization{% #organization %}

Datadog requires a [fine-grained personal access token](https://docs.github.com/en/rest/authentication/permissions-required-for-fine-grained-personal-access-tokens) created by an organization owner, with the organization set as the token's resource owner and the `Administration` organization permission set to read-only. Your organization name is the login in the URL `https://github.com/<organization-name>`.

An organization report covers only that organization. Because cost centers are an enterprise-level feature, organization accounts can't break down costs by cost center.

### Installation{% #installation %}

1. Navigate to the Datadog [Github Costs tile](https://app.datadoghq.com/integrations/github-costs).
1. Click **Add New Account**.
1. Enter an account name, your personal access token, and the enterprise slug or organization login to collect costs for, as well as any appropriate tags.
1. Click the **Save** button to save your settings.

### Validation{% #validation %}

After the integration is set up, data typically appears in [Cloud Cost Management](https://app.datadoghq.com/cost) under the provider name "GitHub Costs" within approximately 24 hours. The GitHub cost integration estimates costs based on list prices and usage data, and includes discount values when available. It does not account for any negotiated rates.
