## Overview{% #overview %}

**Know exactly where your Datadog environment stands, with evidence you can act on.**

Environments evolve. Services are added, teams change, tagging conventions get extended, and usage grows in step with the business. After a year or two of that, most teams want an independent baseline: what is in good shape, what deserves attention next, and what the evidence looks like when you take an improvement case to leadership.

HealthScan is that baseline: a fixed-scope, independent assessment of your existing Datadog environment, benchmarked against Datadog best practices by engineers who run the platform in production every day. The assessment is read-only throughout and delivered in one to two weeks, with nothing changed in your environment.

- Tagging strategy, naming standards, and cardinality risks
- Monitor coverage and alert signal quality
- Dashboard usage and visibility gaps
- APM and service coverage, including trace accuracy and service maps
- Ownership mapping, escalation routing, and governance
- Cost and usage profile against your contract
- High-level checks across Security and Cloud Security Management, where enabled

Each domain is scored green, amber, or red against best-practice benchmarks for your scale.

### Deliverables{% #deliverables %}

- **Health scorecard**: a single-page green, amber, or red view of every domain reviewed
- **Executive summary**: structured for a CTO or leadership audience, covering what was found and why it matters
- **Environment snapshot**: services covered, Agent versions, integration inventory, and dashboard and monitor counts, captured as a baseline
- **Prioritized improvement backlog**: every finding mapped to a recommended action with impact and effort ratings, ordered highest value first
- **Findings readout**: a live session with Q&A for engineering and leadership stakeholders

### Engagement approach{% #engagement-approach %}

Kickoff and discovery workshop, independent environment analysis, then a findings and recommendations session. Two customer sessions in total, so the demand on your team stays light.

### Optional deep dives{% #optional-deep-dives %}

Where the scorecard surfaces a significant opportunity, you can add a targeted, fixed-scope Deep Dive: detailed remediation planning and optimization design within one domain, such as observability foundations, APM, security, or cost management. Typically one to two weeks per capability area.

**Duration**: one to two weeks from kickoff to findings readout. **Access required**: read-only access to your Datadog account. No cloud credentials. **Best when**: Datadog has been running for six months or more, and you want an independent view before committing improvement budget.
