## Overview{% #overview %}

Monitor activity, token consumption, credits, and estimated usage costs across ChatGPT Chat, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. Breakdowns by product, model, and user are available where OpenAI provides those details.

This integration collects OpenAI COSTS records for your Enterprise organization. Reported usage costs are not final invoice amounts.

## Setup{% #setup %}

### Prerequisites{% #prerequisites %}

- A ChatGPT Enterprise workspace with access to OpenAI's [Costs API](https://chatgpt.com/admin/api-reference#tag/Costs).
- A workspace owner or workspace admin who can create an admin API key.
- The `org-...` OpenAI organization ID used by the Costs API for your Enterprise usage. This is an API Platform organization ID, not the ChatGPT workspace UUID or your Datadog organization ID. If you are unsure which organization ID to use, confirm it with your workspace owner or OpenAI support.

### Configuration{% #configuration %}

#### Create a Costs-only admin API key{% #create-a-costs-only-admin-api-key %}

1. Open the [OpenAI Admin Console](https://admin.openai.com/credentials?tab=admin-keys) and select your ChatGPT Enterprise workspace. Create the key here (*not* in the API Platform admin-key console).
1. Navigate to **Credentials** > **Admin keys** > **Create new admin key**.
1. If you are a workspace owner, select **Custom permissions**. Workspace admins configure the available permission categories directly.
1. Set **Costs** to **Read** and leave all other permission categories at **None**.
1. Create the key and copy its secret for the next step.

Costs-only access is sufficient for this integration. The integration does not require access to conversation prompts, responses, or other compliance event types.

#### Connect the workspace to Datadog{% #connect-the-workspace-to-datadog %}

1. In Datadog, navigate to **Agent Console** > **Settings** > **Data Sources** and select **ChatGPT Enterprise**. You can also open the tile from the **Integrations** page.

1. Select **Install**, open **Configure**, and select **Add Account**. Fill in the following details:

   - **Account name**: Enter an account name that identifies the workspace.
   - **ChatGPT Enterprise Admin API Key**: Enter the admin key you created in the Create a Costs-only admin API key section.
   - **OpenAI Organization ID**: Enter the `org-...` organization ID used by the Costs API for that workspace's Enterprise usage.

1. Save the account. To connect additional workspaces, repeat the steps in this section. You can reuse the same admin API key.

### Validation{% #validation %}

After saving the account, allow up to 1 hour for data already available from OpenAI to appear in Agent Console. Recent activity can take longer to appear because of OpenAI's reporting delay.

Open **Agent Console** > **Settings** > **Data Sources** to check the connection, then review usage and estimated costs in Agent Console.

If data does not appear:

- Confirm that the key was created for the intended workspace in the OpenAI Admin Console and that **Costs** is set to **Read**.
- Confirm that the organization ID matches the Enterprise usage you want to collect. A workspace UUID cannot be used in this field.
- Confirm that OpenAI has Costs data available for the selected time range. Token and user breakdowns depend on the fields OpenAI provides.

If the problem persists, contact [Datadog support](https://docs.datadoghq.com/help/).

## Uninstallation{% #uninstallation %}

1. Open the **ChatGPT Enterprise** integration tile and select **Configure**.
1. Delete each configured account to stop future collection for that account.
1. Uninstall the integration from Datadog.
1. If the admin key was created exclusively for this integration, revoke it in the OpenAI Admin Console.

Removing the integration does not delete data already collected in Datadog.

## Data Collected{% #data-collected %}

### Metrics{% #metrics %}

All metrics include `openai_organization_id`. Additional tags include `product`, `model`, `surface`, `client`, `service_tier`, `reasoning`, and `user_email` when available. Cost metrics can also include `sku` and `billing_mode`; token metrics include `modality`.

Token metrics are emitted only when OpenAI provides the corresponding detailed usage fields with nonzero values. User attribution is available only when OpenAI provides a user email. Credits and USD are separate units and should not be added together.
