# Azure Network Interface

## Overview{% #overview %}

Azure Network Interface enables an Azure Virtual Machine to communicate with internet, Azure, and on-premises resources.

Use the Datadog Azure integration to collect metrics from Azure Network Interface.

If you haven't already, set up the [Microsoft Azure integration](https://docs.datadoghq.com/integrations/azure.md) first. There are no other installation steps.

| **azure.network\_networkinterfaces.creation\_rate\_max\_total\_flows\_in**(gauge)  | Maximum creation rate of inbound flows (traffic going into the NIC).                                 |
| **azure.network\_networkinterfaces.creation\_rate\_max\_total\_flows\_out**(gauge) | Maximum creation rate of outbound flows (traffic going out of the NIC).                              |
| **azure.network\_networkinterfaces.current\_total\_flows\_in**(gauge)              | Inbound flows are number of current flows in the inbound direction (traffic going into the NIC).     |
| **azure.network\_networkinterfaces.current\_total\_flows\_out**(gauge)             | Outbound flows are number of current flows in the outbound direction (traffic going out of the NIC). |
| **azure.network\_networkinterfaces.packets\_received**(count)                      | Number of packets the network interface received.                                                    |
| **azure.network\_networkinterfaces.packets\_sent**(count)                          | Number of packets the network interface sent.                                                        |
