Enable Kernel Parameter to Ignore Bogus ICMP Error Responses on IPv4 Interfaces
This page is not yet available in Spanish. We are working on its translation.
If you have any questions or feedback about our current translation project,
feel free to reach out to us!Description
To set the runtime status of the net.ipv4.icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses
kernel parameter, run the following command:
$ sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses=1
To make sure that the setting is persistent, add the following line to a file in the directory /etc/sysctl.d
:
net.ipv4.icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses = 1
Rationale
Ignoring bogus ICMP error responses reduces
log size, although some activity would not be logged.
