## Overview{% #overview %}

Confluence is a team workspace where knowledge and collaboration meet. It allows teams to create, share, and collaborate on content in one place. The Datadog integration for Confluence enables you to:

- Create a postmortem in Confluence from the Incident App
- Provide Confluence page data to Bits AI

## Setup{% #setup %}

### OAuth 2.0 setup instructions{% #oauth-20-setup-instructions %}

1. Navigate to the [Datadog Confluence integration tile](https://app.datadoghq.com/integrations/confluence) and click **+ Add**.
1. Enter the URL of your Atlassian instance.
1. Click **Authenticate with Atlassian** and follow the instructions on the Atlassian authorization page. **If there is a dropdown to select which Atlassian account instance, make sure to select the same one you just entered into Datadog**.
1. Click **Accept** on the Atlassian authorization page. You are redirected back to the Confluence tile, with the new account in "Pending" status.
1. The account moves to "Active" status once Datadog has verified that the account is valid and ready for use.

### Connect App (Legacy) setup instructions{% #connect-app-legacy-setup-instructions %}

1. Sign in to your Confluence Cloud account and navigate to the Atlassian Marketplace.
1. Search for the "Datadog for Confluence Cloud" app and select the version that corresponds to your Datadog site.
1. Once installed, navigate to the App Menu and click the "Configure" button.
1. Generate a one-time code.
1. Navigate to the [Datadog Confluence integration tile](https://app.datadoghq.com/integrations/confluence) and click **+ Add**.
1. Select **Connect App (Legacy)**.
1. Copy the generated code and paste it into the One-Time Code text box.
1. Click **Connect** to link your Datadog and Confluence Cloud accounts.

### Configuration{% #configuration %}

#### Incident App Postmortem Configuration{% #incident-app-postmortem-configuration %}

To set up your postmortem template in Incident App:

1. Navigate to the Incident App in Datadog.
1. Go to **Settings > Postmortem Templates (under any incident type)**.
1. Create a new template or modify an existing one.
1. Under the **Save Location** dropdown, select Confluence, then configure the space.
1. Your template will be used when creating postmortems from incidents.

#### Bits AI Configuration{% #bits-ai-configuration %}

To enable account access for Bits AI:

1. Navigate to the Confluence integration tile in your Datadog account.
1. Click the Gear icon for the account that you want to update and select **Edit**.
1. Select the **Enable account access for Bits AI** checkbox.
1. Click **Save**.
1. In [Bits.md](https://app.datadoghq.com/bits-ai/settings/bits-md), fill in the **Third-Party Integration Context** snippet to help Bits make better use of this account's data during investigations.

Enabling account access for Bits AI allows Bits AI to search and read live Confluence content accessible to the Confluence user who authorized the account (OAuth 2.0) or installed the Atlassian Marketplace application (Connect App).

## Data handling and retention{% #data-handling-and-retention %}

1. **Access to metadata**: The Datadog Confluence integration may receive Confluence metadata fields that include PII, such as owner field or revision history, when it downloads Confluence data on behalf of the customer. This metadata is not persistently stored.
1. **Data synchronization**: Datadog keeps its copy of a Confluence page in sync with the customer's version. If a customer deletes personal data from a Confluence page, that data is also removed from Datadog's copy. Datadog does not retain previous versions of a Confluence page or a maintain deltas between versions.
1. **Data deletion on uninstall**: If a customer uninstalls the Datadog Confluence integration or ends their relationship with Datadog, all locally stored Confluence data is deleted. This applies even if the Confluence account used for the Datadog integration still has access to the Confluence Cloud account.
1. **Region-specific data storage**: The Confluence data retrieved by the integration is stored only in the Datadog region where the customer's account is located. It is not synced to other Datadog regions.
